Uruguay won 5-0 against Bolivia, while host USA lost 1-2 to Panama in the second match of Group C on June 28.

In the first match, the host USA was rated much higher than Panama but they unexpectedly “fell off the horse”. The reason was that they lost a man very early, when striker Timothy Weah was red carded for a foul on Roderick Miller ( Panama ).

Despite playing with one less player, the US team opened the score 1-0 thanks to Folarin Balogun with a beautiful left-footed curler in the 22nd minute. But just 4 minutes later, Cesar Blackman unleashed a dangerous shot from the 16.50m line to help Panama tie the score 1-1.

From this point on, the game was completely Panama’s. But they could not pҽnetrate the solidly organized defense of the US team.

It was not until the 83rd minute that Fajardo scored the winning goal 2-1 for Panama with a very powerful shot from nearly 5 meters away.

In the 88th minute, midfielder Carrasquilla (Panama) received a red card and left the field. But there was too little time left for the US team to score an equalizer. With a final defeat of 1-2, the US team will face many difficulties when facing Uruguay in the final match.

Meanwhile, Uruguay had an easy 5-0 win over Bolivia. In the 8th minute, Pellistri opened the score 1-0 for Uruguay with a low header from about 2m away. Bolivia then tried to f𝔦ght back but they were too weak and could not keep the ball against Uruguay’s strong pressure. In the second half, Uruguay scored 3 more goals thanks to Araujo in the 77th minute, Valverde in the 81st minute and Bentancur in the 89th minute to win 5-0.

With this result, Uruguay temporarily leads Group C with 6 points, goal difference +7 and they are almost certain to secure a ticket to the quarterfinals. Because in the final match against the US team, Uruguay only needs to not lose by a difference of 3 goals or more to be sure of winning the ticket.

The US and Panama are both at 3 points. To advance, the US must bҽat Uruguay in the final match.
