Manchester United Launches £50m Second Bid for Jarrad Branthwaite as Club Aims to Complete Quartet of Signings, Boosted by Mason Greenwood Sale

Jarrad Branthwaite, a defender for Everton, has received an upgraded offer from Manchester United worth £45 million plus an additional £5 million.

Unted’s initial £35 million offer was turned down by Everton last month, and it is rumored that the 22-year-old defender is worth closer to £70 million.

United have made their move as Mason Greenwood 's transfer to Marseille progresses

Though United is willing to offer Branthwaite a long-term deal at £160,000 per week, they are hoping that the higher offer would force their Premier League opponents to the bargaining table.

Mail Sport had originally reported that United will be hosting a recruitment meeting on Monday to talk about potential moves for Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna and Matthijs de Ligt, the defender for Bayern Munich, as well as a potential new bid for Branthwaite.

United is in advanced negotiations with Bayern for De Ligt, hoping to reach an agreement on a sum of around £43 million. Zirkzee has a £34 million buyout clause in Italy.

A defensive midfielder, such as Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain, is the club’s other top goal for the summer transfer window.

Mason Greenwood might be the first player to leave United in order to balance the finances and adhere to profit and sustainability regulations.

Greenwood’s contentious tenure at United is reportedly coming to an end after Marseille submitted a £27 million proposal with the promise of a sizable sell-on clause.

Manager Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen his defence ahead of the new season

On the opening day of the preseason, Greenwood did not practice with his teammates but instead had discussions with United officials at Carrington on Monday.

Despite the fact that allegations of attempted rape and violence against the 22-year-old were dismissed last year, he has been warned he has no future at Old Trafford. The player spent the previous season on loan at Getafe.

With negotiations for Greenwood at an advanced point, Marseille has surpassed Lazio, Atletico Madrid, and Valencia in the battle to sign him.

The Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek is also set to leaving United after agreeing to terms with Girona, ending his wretched time at Old Trafford.

For a player who cost £35 million to Ajax four years ago, United is willing to take a fee of £450,000; but, the agreement would also include a sell-on clause and add-ons worth up to £16 million.
