Darwin Nunez and Colombian fans fought after the Copa America semi-finals caused havoc

After Uruguay defeated 0-1 to Colombia in the 2024 Copa America semi-final at Bank of America Stadium on July 11, striker Darwin Nunez battled with spectators.

Darwin Nunez, his teammates, and Colombian fans clashed as they approached the tunnel at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte City, North Carolina, following the match. Liverpool’s goalscorer and Barcelona’s injured Ronald Araujo attacked and kicked opposing fans in the stands.

Fan photos on social media Columbian fans also disagreed, responding violently and f𝔦ghting with Uruguayan fans in the stands.

Colombian fans in the stands perhaps provoked the losing Uruguayan players to leave the field, causing this mayhem. Colombian fans dominated the Bank of America Stadium’s over 70,000 seats and often fought Uruguayan fans.

It took time to resolve the issue. The brawl affected many Uruguayan fans, players, and team personnel, according to El Pais.

The altercation also involved Uruguay team director Jorge Giordano and publicity officer Felipe Cotelo. Uruguayan player Manuel Ugarte had to go to the stands to help his family injured by fan-thrown objects. Due to the bulk of Colombian fans assaulting Uruguay fans, several were gravely injured in the melee.

To avoid more unrest, striker Nunez was taken to the locker room by security and Uruguayan players after running into the stands to f𝔦ght Colombian fans.
