When asked about the 21-year-old taking on the No. 5 shirt after signing a six-year deal at Santiago Bernabéu last summer, Zidane told The Madrid Zone:

“Jude, are you taking my shirt?” It came as a surprise. It was a nice treat, though. I also think that the Madrid fans didn’t plan for him to have a year like this because of what he is doing and the kind of player he is. There is always a time to get used to a new club in the first year, but he didn’t do that. He knew what to do all the time. He was great.”

The English midfielder made 42 starts across all competitions in his first season with Real Madrid and scored 23 goals and set up 13 others. Over the past year, he has won the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and the Supercopa de España.
