Man Utd surprisingly suffered a 0-3 defeat against Liverpool even though coach Ten Hag’s team did not play too badly at Williams-Brice Stadium (USA).
Man Utd are in good form on their tour of the United States. Coach Ten Hag’s team left a positive mark with wins over Rangers, Betis and a loss to Arsenal (90 minutes, penalty shootout). However, the surprise happened in the “Red Devils” final friendly match when they were unexpectedly “exposed” by Liverpool at Williams-Brice Stadium. That was the inevitable result of an unconvincing performance by Ten Hag’s students.
Man Utd fielded a team with a blend of young talents and seasoned players. Both teams started the match energetically, with Man Utd showing a slight edge, but Liverpool unexpectedly took the lead.
In the 10th minute, Carvalho received the ball at the edge of the penalty area, skillfully evaded Casemiro, and then scored past Onana while Wan-Bissaka was unable to intervene.
Casemiro was primarily at fault for the goal, as his slow reaction allowed Carvalho to easily bypass him.
After going behind, Man Utd intensified their attack, creating several opportunities to challenge Kelleher. Despite their efforts, they failed to score due to a combination of bad luck for their strikers and excellent saves from Kelleher.
Defensive lapses further hurt Man Utd. In the 36th minute, Amass failed to effectively challenge Salah in a one-on-one, allowing Salah to cross for Jones to score, making it 2-0.
The halftime break revitalized Ten Hag’s team. In the second half, with only three substitutions made, Man Utd dominated the first 15 minutes. Unfortunately, their strikers continued to be unlucky.
In the 61st minute, Liverpool took advantage of Man Utd’s disjointed defense. Onana initially blocked a shot, but the rebound fell to Tsimikas, who scored to make it 3-0.
