Even though “only” €80m of the deal will be paid up front and the other €20m could come in the form of bonuses, this is a huge amount of money for a player who is only 22 years old, has only played in Ligue 1, and just recently made his debut with the full French national team.

He’s not there yet, though. So why is Tchouameni worth so much more than what FootballTransfers’ model says?

Tchouameni is a very good young player. According to data from our partners at SCISports, he is a great passer from central midfield, using deep completions to great effect. He is also one of the best chance-makers in Ligue 1 for a defensive player.

Monaco hasn’t had the best season, though, and even though he’s one of their most important players right now, he hasn’t quite reached the level we thought he would. He still has a lot of room to grow, though, which will help him when he moves to the Champions League winners.
