Rodrygo will take over for Toni Kroos as Real Madrid’s new set piece taker.
A story from Guillermo Rai of The Athletic says that Rodrygo will take Toni Kroos’ place at set pieces for Real Madrid.
Rodrygo was told to start set-piece training as soon as he got back to camp after taking some time off to rest his muscles. The Brazilian had to miss some training because of them. During practice, he was told to “step up” and take set pieces whenever there was a mistake.
Toni Kroos has been taking corners and long free kicks for Real Madrid for 10 years. He just started taking straight free kicks a few months ago. He left, so someone had to take his place. It looks like Rodrygo is now the best person to do it.
Real Madrid does have other players they can use when Rodrygo isn’t on the field. Arda Guler has shown he is great at set pieces, and Luka Modric has a history of being great at corners.
