Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has been officially designated as the city’s Tourism Ambassador

AMBASSADOR: Virgil van Dijk, a star player for Liverpool, has been named the city’s Tourism Ambassador.

In their Unpack 2024 book, travel company Expedia lists Liverpool as one of the top 10 most popular places to visit around the world right now. Tourism to the city has grown, with search terms for trips doubling every year and visitors coming from the US, Canada, Australia, Norway, and Ireland, among other places.

Because Liverpool is becoming more and more famous, Expedia has made Reds captain Van Dijk their new ambassador. The Dutch defender put together a special travel book with his picks for the best places to visit in the city.

Here are some of the best places to visit: the famous Cavern Club, where The Beatles got their start; the historic Royal Albert Dock; and, of course, Anfield, Van Dijk’s home for the past six years.

Van Dijk said, “I love to travel very much.” Football takes us to a lot of places, but we don’t get to fully experience them. That’s why whenever I have some free time, I like to plan an adventure with my family and friends. The Mirror says, “That’s why I’m happy to be working with Expedia—we both think that we were made to travel.”
