Lisandro Martinez was a key performer in Manchester United’s victory over Southampton.

Thanks to a solid performance by Matthijs de Ligt, Manchester United secured a 3-0 victory. Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford both found the net, while Manuel Ugarte made a commendable debut.

However, overlooking Lisandro Martinez would be an error. After a challenging previous season plagued by injuries, Martinez is now in significantly better form.

Alongside De Ligt, Martinez demonstrated potential in establishing a partnership that could become the cornerstone of Manchester United’s defense.

He was omnipresent in defense, effectively covering for his teammates and contributing to playmaking from deep positions.

Martinez finished the game with a 97% passing accuracy (58/60), completing both dribbles, making two tackles and winning all his challenges (3/3)

 

Added to that seven recoveries and four interceptions, it was a truly all-round performance from the player affectionately known as ‘The Butcher’ by United fans.
