Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was engulfed by a crowd of fans while on international duty. After Cameroon’s 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe, Onana was overwhelmed by supporters as he attempted to make his way to the airport.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper attracted a large number of fans due to a change in the match venue. Originally scheduled to take place in Zimbabwe, the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification game was moved to the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda after the grounds in Zimbabwe were deemed inadequate.
Given Uganda’s substantial Manchester United fan base, Onana’s presence in the streets following the game became a major event. As he attempted to navigate through the crowd, the 28-year-old was met with enthusiastic fans who surrounded him, eagerly shouting his name and requesting photographs.
After making his way through the dense crowd, Onana managed to get into a car and proceed to the airport.
Military personnel were visible clearing a path to help him onto the road, as he departed from the Cameroon team bus.
Earlier in the week, the former Ajax and Inter Milan player had already generated excitement upon his arrival in Uganda for the match. Fans had eagerly awaited him at Entebbe International Airport, where reports indicate that even airport staff and security personnel were requesting photographs with him.
