Bruno Fernandes has been asked to “delete” a social media comment he made after Jadon Sancho’s debut for Chelsea. The Manchester United captain responded to Sancho’s Instagram post celebrating his Man of the Match performance in the Blues’ game against Bournemouth.
Sancho, 24, had come on to replace Pedro Neto at half-time before putting in an impressive display on the left flank and providing the assist for Christopher Nkunku’s match-winning goal.
The winger, on loan at the London club from United, took to Instagram to say: “Delighted to make my @chelseafc debut, and to top it off with a win.”
Fernandes, who starred alongside and captained Sancho during the Englishman’s three years at Old Trafford, replied: “Some player you 🔥 keep that smile.”
However, fans have now urged the 30-year-old to delete the comment.
One user said: “Be serious, Bruno.”
A second simply said: “Delete.”
Another said: “You having a laugh Bruno?!!!”
A fourth added: “Some captain you are 😂 Roy Keane would have dragged you out by the scruff of your shirt.”
A fifth said: “He disrespected the club and fans you play for.”
Amid the outcry, one fan argued: “He is praising his friend..? This is the problem with this world.”
In Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Southampton, Fernandes provided the opening assist for the game.
Commenting on Sancho’s debut, Maresca seemed to indirectly criticize Erik Ten Hag, the United manager, who had sidelined Sancho after a public dispute concerning his training methods.
Maresca remarked, “I sense that Jadon is someone who needs encouragement. This was my impression from our conversations before he joined us.
“I also know he is eager to showcase his abilities, but for me, it’s about enjoying the game. That’s why they play football.
“They are happy when they play, they want to enjoy the sport, and their talent will lead to good performances.”
