Manchester United legend Gary Neville has switched gears and taken up the role of a bass player, joining an indie band to perform on a UK tour

GARY NEVILLE has teamed up with indie rock band The Reytons, announcing himself as their new bass player. The ex-Man Utd right-back posed with the Yorkshire group as they gear up for their 2025 tour.

The 49-year-old admitted he’d never played the bass before

Neville is taking the place of bassist Lee Holland, who is out of action with a broken arm.

The Rotherham rockers are preparing for a UK tour next year to promote their new album.

And they shared a video of Neville’s audition for the group as they searched for Holland’s replacement.

In the clip, Neville told the band: “If Lee can play for The Reytons, then so can I.”

During the audition, Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville was tested on his dancing skills and asked how quickly he could down a pint. Before winning a blind taste test involving a salad and claiming a greasy burger for lunch, he also faced a challenge in the game Higher or Lower.

After the audition, lead singer Jonny Yerrell told Neville, “You’ve literally ticked every box there, pal. But the only question now is, what’re you actually like on bass?”

A sheepish Neville admitted, “I’ve never played bass in my life.” Yerrell responded with a grin, “You’re in.”

One fan on X commented, “This is absolutely class, chaps,” while another said, “This is the best video I’ve ever seen.”

Fans dreaming of the ex-Three Lions star hitting the stage with the band may be disappointed come next year.

In the full press release, a disclaimer added: “Gary Neville may or may not be actually joining The Reytons.”
