After sustaining a knee injury, former Real Madrid and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31. After his contract at Man United expired earlier this season, Varane joined the Serie A team Como. However, the former World Cup winner made the decision to give up football after recently sustaining a knee injury.
He only appeared in one CoppA Itali game for Como before being replaced after just 20 minutes.
Varane’s most prosperous club career was spent with Real Madrid, where he spent ten seasons playing and took home eighteen medals, including three La Liga championships and four Champions League MVP awards.
Along with Man United, he won the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and the World Cup in 2018 with his native France.
