Mbappe officially takes over French club, becomes youngest owner in Europe

Mbappe shows his influence in French football by taking ownership of Caen, thereby becoming the youngest “owner” in Europe.

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has just officially completed the procedure to buy Caen, a club playing in the French First Division (Ligue 2). According to a report from AS, Mbappe agreed to spend 20 million euros to hold 80% of the team’s shares through the investment company Interconnected Ventures, the remaining 20% of the shares still belong to the old owner Pierre-Antoine Capton.

According to Bolavip, at the age of 25, the Real Madrid star became the youngest owner of a professional football club in Europe, surpassing Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus (27 years old).

In July, Caen announced Mbappe as a new shareholder. However, the deal is still awaiting approval from the French Football Financial Supervisory Authority (DNCG).

The approval process was completed on September 25. In a new statement, DNCG confirmed that it had not detected any irregularities in the process of changing the ownership of Caen, and confirmed that the sales contract between all parties involved was valid.

In the 2024/25 season, Caen did not start Ligue 2 very smoothly when they only won 1 point in 4 matches. However, the team’s performance improved significantly with 2 consecutive victories against Ajaccio (1-0) and Amiens (2-1). Mbappe himself posted a congratulatory message to Caen after the first victory on September 21.

With the move to buy Caen, Mbappe not only consolidated his position as a top star but also expanded his influence in the football world as an investor. The 25-year-old striker is one of many players investing in football clubs. Previously, his teammate in the French national team, N’Golo Kante, also bought Belgian team Royal Excelsior Virton.
