As expected of the Madrid derby, the two teams entered the match with determination and no less fierceness.

In the 7th minute, Atletico created the first notable opportunity thanks to the individual effort of Julian Alvarez. The former Man City striker passed Rudiger and finished from a narrow angle, but could not goalkeeper Courtois.

Less than 10 minutes later, Real Madrid had a fierce response when Valverde finished from outside the box, forcing goalkeeper Oblak to fly to block. The first half ended without any goals scored.

After the break, coach Carlo Ancelotti asked his players to increase their and the efforts of the Spanish Royal team were rewarded in the 64th minute. From a set piece, veteran Luka Modric pushed to the left wing for Vinicius to get past De Paul and then cross the ball past the entire Atletico defense, creating conditions for Militao to volley the ball to lightly hit Llorente and change direction into the net.

The Madrid derby was then suspended for about 16 minutes because Atletico fans threw strange objects at goalkeeper Courtois.

As the match progressed, coach Diego Simeone’s players attacked more and more intensely towards the “Los Blancos” goal. And the efforts of the home team were finally rewarded.

In the 5th minute of injury time, Galan passed the ball to Correa, who ran down, passed goalkeeper Courtois and put the ball into an empty goal. The referee initially thought Correa was offside but after consulting VAR, the goal was recognized for Atletico.

Before the end of the match, Atletico’s Llorente was sent off after a rough tackle on a Real player. However, the remaining time was too short for “Los Blancos” to score the decisive goal.

Drawing 1-1 with their city rivals, Real Madrid could only reduce the gap with the top team Barca to 3 points while Atletico was right behind with 2 points less.
