Liverpool require more from Dominik Szoboszlai – he is essential to Arne Slot’s strategy

Dominik Szoboszlai is essential to Arne Slot’s approach for Liverpool, but he needs to do better.

The cross Andy Robertson made was excellent. Dominik Szoboszlai ran just as well to meet it. However, the ball missed the Wolverhampton Wanderers goal net.

When all you had to do was bundle the ball into the net…

It cannoned off Sam Johnstone’s outstretched leg and out for a corner thanks to Szoboszlai’s excellent connection.

Regardless of whether it was a subpar finish, incredible goalkeeping, or something in between, Szoboszlai’s quest for his fourth Premier League goal goes on.

This run dates back eighteen outings, to January 31, when he scored in Liverpool’s 4-1 triumph over Chelsea.

The midfielder from Hungary had another near-miss situation, demonstrating why he continues to polarize supporter opinions.

Szoboszlai’s position has changed since head coach Arne Slot took over. Instead of playing the somewhat deeper No 8 role under Jurgen Klopp, he is now playing the more advanced No 10 role.

It is accompanied by a distinct set of standards and places more emphasis on goal contributions and general innovation. Szoboszlai, 23, concluded the previous campaign with 45 appearances from the No. 8 position, seven goals, and four assists. It comes as no surprise that Slot is eager to change that, and he set the tone before Liverpool’s opening Champions League matchup with AC Milan.

Slot told reporters during the pre-game press conference, “Something that we have to work on with him is that he’s also even more involved in scoring goals and creating chances.” “He scored three (league goals) last season, and his numbers need to increase for an attacking midfielder at Liverpool.”

He answered by scoring the third goal at the San Siro to clinch Liverpool’s comeback triumph, although it is still his sole goal of the season, along with one assist against Manchester United.

They were the ideal illustrations of what Szoboszlai must perform on a regular basis. He set up the against Milan with a goal that saw him release Cody Gakpo before sprinting into the box to finish a cross.

His assist to Mohamed Salah demonstrated how to make the right pass during a Liverpool transition. Salah completed the task with the appropriate decision and pass weight.
