The Memphis Grizzlies are coming off a disappointing season where Ja Morant played in only nine games. The 25-year-old has appeared in just 257 games over his first five NBA seasons, dealing with injuries every year. Heading into the 2024-25 season, Morant is healthy, but he has a lot to prove.
Memphis had made three consecutive playoff appearances before winning only 27 games in 2024. It wasn’t just Morant’s absence; no team suffered more injuries last season, leading to a disastrous outcome. While Morant aims to lead a comeback season, it will be no easy task.
With Morant’s injury history continuing to grow, here’s a look at all the issues that have caused the two-time All-Star to miss time in his NBA career.
Morant suffered a labral tear during a training session, which required surgery. The 6’2 guard missed the final 47 games of the season but will be ready for training camp.
Illness, December 2023
The two-time All-Star missed one game on Dec. 28 with an illness. He was able to play the following night against the Clippers and produced a 19-point double-double.
Hand injury, 2023 playoffs
Morant injured his hand driving to the basket in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Lakers in 2023. It forced him to miss Game 2, but he returned to drop 45 points in Game 3.
Left hip, April 2023
Memphis had a top seed locked up and had no reason to push Morant to his limits. The 6’2 missed the April 5 loss to the Pelicans with a hip injury, but he was back in the lineup two days later.
Right thigh, March 2023
Morant missed just one game on the first night of a back-to-back. The soreness was a lingering issue, but it did not hold him back as he exploded for 36 points the following night against the Clippers.
