How Dani Carvajal’s injury opens the door for a potential move of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid

How Dani Carvajal’s Injury Could Lead to The Real Madrid Transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid may sign a new right back after Dani Carvajal’s season-ending injury, and Trent Alexander-Arnold is theoretically available.

It was announced by Real Madrid that Carvajal sustained a “ruptured popliteus tendon, a ruptured external collateral ligament, and a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right leg” on October 5 against Villarreal. Carlo Ancelotti will have to start Lucas Vázquez at right back for the remainder of Los Blancos’ 2024–25 La Liga and Champions League championship defenses because the Euro 2024 winner will miss them.

In the aftermath of Dani Carvajal’s season-ending injury, Real Madrid could sign a new right back-and Trent Alexander-Arnold is technically on the market.

Vázquez is not a natural substitute for the position, despite his prior fill-ins on the right side. Additionally, he lacks Carvajal’s physicality and defensive acumen.

The interim stand-in leaves the door open for Real Madrid to potentially sign a fresh player in the summer or January. It’s no that Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool has previously been connected to the Spanish powerhouses, but as the England international has yet to sign a new contract with the Reds, speculation is growing.

The present agreement with Alexander-Arnold expires on June 30, 2025. The defender’s logical course would be to remain with Liverpool and, after Virgil van Dijk departs, take the captaincy of the team. However, the 26-year-old may have a new direction due to Real Madrid’s rekindled interest.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Alexander-Arnold is still a major target for Real Madrid. The defender would fill a big void for Ancelotti in addition to taking over for Carvajal. After all, when the Spaniard fully recuperates from his severe knee injury, he will be 33 years old.

Additionally, Alexander-Arnold would provide Ancelotti’s team some much-needed defensive depth. Should Vázquez or Antonio Rüdiger also be sidelined, Los Blancos have little choices due to injuries to David Alaba, Éder Militão, and Joan Martínez. Alexander-Arnold had 319 caps for Liverpool as of the October international break. The Champions League titles from 2019 and 2020 are among the trophies in his collection. Additionally, he was a major contributor to Liverpool’s UCL runs in 2018 and 2022, however the team lost both finals to Real Madrid.

Jude Bellingham, Alexander-Arnold’s close friend and teammate from England, would also be reunited with him if they moved to Madrid.

Even if Alexander-Arnold’s future with Liverpool, Real Madrid, or any other team is currently just conjecture, should his contract problem not be resolved, the discussion will go on.
