Manchester United have added another absentee to their squad. Defender Noussair Mazraoui, who has started all seven Premier League games for the Red Devils this season, has undergone successful heart surgery after suffering an irregular heartbeat.
Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui has undergone heart surgery and will be out for several weeks, the club have said. Mazraoui, who joined United from Bayern Munich this summer for £15m, underwent surgery after suffering a “palpitations in the heart”.
On Monday, he withdrew from Morocco’s squad for their two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Central African Republic after suffering a heart attack. Reports later on Thursday said Mazraoui had undergone a successful corrective procedure.
According to United, the player will be back in action in the coming weeks. The Moroccan defender has started all seven of United’s Premier League games this season and will now join Harry Maguire, who is out for several weeks with a muscle problem.
The Red Devils also have long-term injuries to Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.
The crisis has recently seen Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo miss international matches for their respective countries. The media has suggested that the club is making up fitness issues to prevent their star attackers from leaving the team, but it is very difficult to stop this group of young players from playing for their country, especially in the case of Garnacho for Argentina.
