Christian Eriksen impressed during the first half of Denmark’s Nations League loss to Spain tonight, but struggled to make an impact in an overwhelmingly one-sided second half.
Spain may have won just 1-0 in Murcia, but they dominated Denmark, registering 25 shots to the visitors’ three and controlling 61% of possession, according to SofaScore.
After the break, Denmark failed to register a single shot, and Eriksen, along with the rest of the attack, faded from the game. He was substituted for Gustav Isaksen in the 72nd minute.
Rasmus Hojlund joined the game six minutes later but had little chance to make an impact amid the relentless Spanish pressure.
Manchester United’s number 9 only had three touches of the ball, losing possession with one of them; however, given the circumstances, he shouldn’t be judged too harshly.
Despite their dominance, Spain didn’t convert their chances until the 79th minute, when Martin Zubimendi’s volley from outside the box slipped under goalkeeper Kaspar Schmeichel, who will be disappointed with the goal.
Schmeichel was otherwise solid, and had Kaspar Dolberg been sharper before halftime, the outcome might have been different.
A beautiful ball over the top from Eriksen (noted as a key pass by SofaScore) released Dolberg, but he was expertly denied by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
