Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte featured in the center of a back three for Uruguay early this morning as the Celeste suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Peru in Lima.

It was a disappointing showing for Marco Bielsa’s team, who had hoped to climb into second place in the Conmebol World Cup qualifying standings, especially after 10-man Bolivia shocked Colombia the previous day.

Uruguay struggled in attack, with players like Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and former United player Facu Pellistri, who came on as a second-half substitute, unable to pose a real threat to Pedro Gallese’s goal.

 

Despite being thrust into an unfamiliar role—having only played one professional match as a center-back before—Ugarte performed reasonably well during the game.
