Aurélien Tchouaméni is sent off during his second match as the captain of the French team

Aurélien Tchouaméni is the first player from the French team to be sent off since Jules Koundé in September 2021 (v Bosnia), and the first as captain at kick-off since Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final.

Belgium – France: Tchouaméni equals a sad performance by Zidane

Aurélien Tchouaméni had certainly dreamed of better for his second match as captain of the French team. After a victory to launch his captaincy against Israel last week (4-1), the Real Madrid midfielder was brought back by Didier Deschamps to face Belgium. But while we were playing the 80th minute of the game, he was sent off after a foul as the last defender on Your Tielemans, receiving a second yellow card. This is the first time since Zinedine Zidane was sent off in the 2006 World Cup final that a captain of the Blues has received a red card in an official match. A statistic that Tchouaméni would have voluntarily done without!
