On Tuesday, Aymeric Laporte, Alvaro Morata, and Alex Baena scored goals to help Spain Serbia 3-0 at home and move on to the quarterfinals of the Nations League.

European champions Spain claimed a place in the Nations League quarter-finals with a 3-0 home win over Serbia thanks to goals by Aymeric Laporte, Alvaro Morata and Alex Baena

With two games left, Spain has already achieved at least a second-place finish. They are in first place in League A Group Four with 10 points, three ahead of Denmark and six ahead of Serbia. Switzerland is in last place with just one point after a 2-2 home draw with Denmark.

Some players from Spain’s 2-1 win over England in the Euro 2024 final were not on the team that played against Serbia, but Spain still had 30 shots while Serbia only had three.

Laporte, a defender, gave Spain the lead with a close-range header in the fifth minute. Morata, who missed a penalty in the 54th minute, made it 2-0 with a shot from just inside the box after 65 minutes.

In the 78th minute, Strahinja Pavlovic of Serbia got a straight red card for a last-man foul on Mikel Oyarzabal on the edge of the area. Baena then curled a beautiful free into the top corner to make it a comfortable win for Spain.

Morata, the captain, told TVE in Spain, “We are in the final stage of another major tournament, and that is something to be proud of.”

As much as it seems easy because we’re always at the end, it’s not. We need to recognize how unique it is and give it the value it deserves.

“We missed a few players who were hurt, but we have to focus on the good things, like how the young players are stepping up.” We have made something unique, and we need to keep going. Spain is going to have a great future.

After beating Denmark 1-0 on Saturday without Dani Carvajal and Rodri because of major knee injuries and also without Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, and Robin Le Normand, Luis de la Fuente’s team played Serbia without teenage star Lamine Yamal, who got hurt against Denmark.
