Ronaldo had an embarrassing incident with the referee and a Scottish player

Ronaldo’s shameful actions towards referee and Scottish players

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has received a lot of criticism after Portugal’s draw against Scotland in the 4th match of the UEFA Nations League 2024/25 group stage.

Portugal’s 3-match winning streak in the Nations League was ended by a 0-0 draw against Scotland. In this match, Ronaldo still played with great effort but could not make any remarkable impression.

Notably, CR7 also reacted angrily to referee Lawrence Visser when he blew the final whistle. CR7 said that the Belgian referee had “robbed” Portugal of a corner in the last minute.

The Al Nassr star was extremely angry, constantly waving his arms and shouting in protest at the referee. Unable to contain his emotions, CR7 rushed straight into the tunnel without even shaking hands with the Scottish players or greeting the Portuguese fans who had come to the stadium to cheer. He even made a mockery of the home team’s fans.

Ronaldo’s actions have caused him to receive a lot of criticism on social media. One person wrote: “Cristiano Ronaldo is holding Portugal back”. Another commented: “Cristiano Ronaldo should forget about the 2026 World Cup. He has done enough for football”. One account wrote: “I love him. In my opinion, he is the best. But imagine how much better Portugal would be without Cristiano Ronaldo”.

While another person was angry: “Cristiano Ronaldo may be a great footballer but my god, his antics on the football pitch are getting more and more embarrassing every time I watch him”. Another wrote: “Portugal are going nowhere under Martinez. He is afraid to drop Ronaldo even though he is clearly out of date and a detriment to the team.”

While Ronaldo missed a number of chances on Tuesday night, he was not the only Portugal player to underperform. Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and Man United’s Bruno Fernandes both struggled, and it was only when Roberto Martinez made his second-half substitutions that Portugal really took the lead.

With their winning run halted, Portugal will have to wait until November to officially book their place in the quarter-finals. They face Poland at home and Croatia away in their next two games. Ronaldo, meanwhile, will return to Al Nassr to focus on the Saudi Pro League title race.
