Poland rescue a 3-3 draw with Croatia.
Poland rallied from two goals down to draw Croatia 3-3 in an action-packed Nations League match on Tuesday.
Having played the entire 90 minutes against Poland tonight, Luka Modrić now has 182 national team appearances to his name.
Since Croatia have now played 363 matches since gaining independence, Modrić has now played in more than 50% of all their matches! 🤯
After falling behind early, Croatia took control with three goals in seven first-half minutes but were pegged back as Dominik Livakovic was sent off late.
After the draw, Croatia was second in Group A1 with seven points from four games, three ahead of Poland. Scotland is last with one point and Portugal first with 10.
Poland were on a two-game losing run and started 20-year-old Kacper Urbanski in place of all-time leading scorer Robert Lewandowski. They wanted retribution for Croatia’s 1-0 home win in their Nations League match in early September.
Captain Piotr Zielinski scored the first goal in the fifth minute from a tight angle as Poland started aggressively.
Croatia scored three quick goals, with Borna Sosa scoring on a rebound in the Polish area to square the score in the 19th minute with a volley into the far corner.
Petar Sucic gave Croatia the lead with a calm finish, and Martin Baturina made it 3-1 in the 26th minute by slipping the ball between Marcin Bulka’s legs.
Poland were reeling until Nicola Zalewski’s remarkable goal before halfway gave them hope in an exciting first half.
In the last seconds of the half, Jakub Kaminski headed a powerful drive toward the Croatian net, but Livakovic made an incredible save to retain the visitors’ lead.
That lead lasted until Lewandowski set up Sebastian Szymanski to equalize in the 68th minute with a low shot into the left corner.
Croatia’s Livakovic was sent off for fouling Lewandowski in the 76th minute, but the hosts failed to capitalize.
Poland play Portugal on Nov. 15 and Scotland three days later, while Croatia play Scotland and Portugal in their final group-stage matches.
