Despite scoring in the victory over RB Leipzig, Darwin Nunez’s time at Liverpool ‘may be coming to an end’

Darwin Nunez’s time at Liverpool “could be numbered,” even though he scored in the win over RB Leipzig.

Under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, Darwin Nunez has had a very rough start to the season.

Even though he scored his second goal of the season against RB Leipzig, Darwin Nunez has been told that his time at Anfield “could be numbered.” The forward played a big role in the 1-0 win in Germany in the Champions League, but there is a lot of competition for his spot.

When Mohamed Salah headed in a ball from the right side, Nunez got the only goal in Leipzig. His play was much better than in his last few games; he kept pressing defenses and created a lot of chances. The Uruguayan player should have gotten a penalty when Willi Orban seemed to have fouled him.

But since Nunez’s initial £64 million (which could go up to £80 million) move from Benfica in 2022, things haven’t always gone as planned. Out of the 18 goals he scored last season, only 11 came in 36 Premier League games. It looks like Diogo Jota is now ahead of him in the competition for the center forward spot.

Once a good player for Liverpool, Steve McManaman says Nunez needs to score more goals or Slot could replace him. The former midfielder told TNT Sports, “When you play as a number nine for Liverpool and cost £80 million, you need to score goals. That’s how he is judged.”

“And he might not have much time left if he doesn’t score goals.”

“He needs to step up this year because he has a long contract that ends in two and a half years. He needs to start putting up the numbers that a Liverpool number nine does.” Salah stepped up, and so did Jota and Luis Diaz to some level.

Slot was happy with Nunez’s play and said that he had asked the Liverpool No. 9 to score. He did, however, praise Gakpo and Salah for their roles in the only goal scored by the Reds.

“It makes me happy to see that Darwin did a great job today.” The Liverpool manager said, “I asked him for a goal before the game, and he gave us one.”

“Before the goal, Cody Gakpo was also very important, and Mo helped out again.” “It’s a team goal.”

Two teams, Liverpool and Aston Villa, have won all three of their Champions League games so far this season. For the Premier League sides in the top European league, things are going well. Manchester City and Arsenal are also unbeaten so far.
