Following their boycott of the Ballon d’Or event due to Vinicius Jr.’s snub, Barcelona seems to be taking a jab at La Liga rivals Real Madrid with a mocking tweet.
In a snarky tweet, Barcelona seemed to make fun of Real Madrid for skipping the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Following the announcement beforehand that Vinicius Junior would not receive the prized accolade, Madrid’s delegation of fifty chose not to attend football’s premier festival in Paris on Monday night.
That honor instead went to Rodri, the Manchester City manager who came on crutches and went on to become Spain’s first Ballon d’Or winner since Luis Suarez in 1960.
When Madrid won Club of the Year, it was unpleasant to watch since no one was there to accept the award. Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane shared the Gerd Muller Trophy, but the England star had to celebrate on stage by himself. Carlo Ancelotti also took home the first-ever Johan Cruyff Trophy for men’s managers.
And competitors Barcelona wrote on X: “We are truly honored to be here,” perhaps taking pleasure in making fun of Madrid’s absence. I appreciate your kind and kind welcome, Ballon d’Or.
The saccharine statement was paired with tuxedo and hand-shaking emojis, which further accentuated the irony, and was put to a retweeted video of their stars walking the red carpet.
One admirer commented on X, “I understand what you guys are doing there.”
Another person stated, “Admin knows what he is doing.”
‘We did show up even though we’re not the favorites,’ was a more scathing statement. In contrast to the glory hunters,
‘Admin will NOT fly to Paris as Admin has been advised they will NOT win the Ballon d’Or,’ Sevilla wrote in a parody of Madrid.
Los Blancos’ purportedly sulky remarks were enough to make their unwillingness to go sound stroppy.
