At Old Trafford, Manchester United’s captain admitted that the team collectively bears some responsibility for Erik ten Hag’s departure.
After scoring in United’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Chelsea, Bruno Fernandes revealed he had apologized to Ten Hag following his dismissal.
In the first Premier League game since the Dutchman’s departure, Moises Caicedo’s impressive goal canceled out Fernandes’ penalty.
With Ten Hag unable to reverse the team’s fortunes, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead United until the November international break, when Ruben Amorim is set to take over.
In a later interview, Fernandes acknowledged to Sky Sports that the former manager’s dismissal wasn’t always justified based on poor club performance alone.
“When a manager leaves, it reflects badly on everyone,” Fernandes said.
“He shoulders the responsibility for the team’s disappointing results and overall performance.”
