Dominik Szoboszlai: Thanks to Leipzig, I became the player I am today
Dominik Szoboszlai gave an interview to his former club’s website regarding the fact that RB Leipzig will host the current breadwinner of the Hungarian national team captain, Liverpool, in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Dominik Szoboszlai signed for a transfer fee of 70 million euros from Leipzig to Liverpool in the summer of 2023, but his former team did not forget him and asked him for an interview. The 23-year-old player said for the first time that he feels good at the “Reds” and that the Premier League is very tough, every match is extremely intense, but he likes playing in England. They then asked him what Wednesday’s BL match would be like for him.
“Of course, it will be a special match, because I spent two and a half great years in Leipzig – began the 49-time national football player. – There are still many acquaintances at the club, and I am very grateful for the two cup victories and the many experiences. After all, it was thanks to Leipzig that I became the player I am today. Without the time in Leipzig, I could hardly have reached the best league in the world.”
He revealed that he still talks a lot with Benjamin Henrichs, they became good friends when they were teammates. Of course, he also keeps in touch with the players of the Hungarian national team, Willi Orbán and Péter Gulácsi, but he is looking forward to meeting the others as well, even though they will be playing as opponents this time. Szoboszlai said about Leipzig that he thinks the team has a chance to win the title every year, and he considers it impressive how many good players they can train and build up, which indicates their quality.
As our paper also reported, Jürgen Klopp, the previous manager of Liverpool, was recently appointed Red Bull’s football manager, with whom the Hungarian footballer worked in the 2023-2024 season – the German coach was also mentioned during the conversation.
“Red Bull can consider themselves lucky to have been able to get Jürgen – a huge catch. He’s a great guy, he knows football very well and he’s been successful everywhere he’s gone. I wish him the best, because I am very grateful to him for taking me to Liverpool and giving me the opportunity to play at the highest level,” said Szoboszlai, who also said that both Leipzig and Pool have a chance to be successful champions. Make it your league season, regardless of the outcome of Wednesday’s game.
“Both frames are extremely high quality. We are facing a very difficult match, it is not easy to play in Leipzig. Even though they lost their first two matches, the results do not reflect what they are capable of. Of course, I trust that we will bring home the three points to Liverpool”, concluded the 8th player of the English team.
