VINI’S STAGE: Real Madrid rise above adversity with Vinicius’ hat-trick

Vinicius Junior scored a hat-trick to help Real Madrid win 4-0 against Osasuna in La Liga on the evening of November 9. However, this victory was overshadowed by three serious injuries for the home team.

The Brazilian striker scored his second hat-trick of the season and took his tally to 12 goals. Jude Bellingham also scored his first goal of the season, making it 2-0.

Ancelotti’s side were booed in their previous two home games, losing 0-4 to arch-rivals Barcelona and 1-3 to AC Milan. But the easy wins came at a heavy price.

Eder Militao collapsed to the ground screaming in pain and clutching his right knee just before half-time. The centre-back was immediately taken off on a stretcher. Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez were also ruled out after picking up muscle injuries in the first half.

Rodrygo was injured early on and limped off the pitch. The striker had also missed El Clasico with another injury.

Worse came for Militao when the club announced he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and would require surgery. The Brazilian centre-back is likely to miss the rest of the season.

Milito ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg in the opening game of last season and was out of action until March this year.

This is the second ACL injury for a  Real Madrid player this season after defender Dani Carvajal ruptured his right leg ligament last month. Goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois, David Alaba and Aurelien Tchuimeni are also out with various injuries.

“Three injuries in the first half is quite rare. The tight schedule does not allow players to have the necessary rest and that increases the risk of injury,” coach Ancelotti commented after the match.
