Referee David Coote faces the of having his refereeing career terminated after a video of him “badmouthing” Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp went viral on social media.
David Coote, one of the Premier League’s top referees, has been temporarily suspended after a video went viral on social media showing him criticizing Liverpool and former “Reds” head coach Jurgen Klopp.
In the video of a conversation between Coote and someone, the “king in black” used harsh words to insult Klopp, even calling the coach an “arrogant German” after a match. According to Coote, this match is likely to be a between Liverpool and Burnley during the
“Liverpool are rubbish. Klopp is an arrogant guy. Apart from slapping me when I refereed the Liverpool-Burnley game during lockdown, he accused me of lying.
“I have no interest in talking to that arrogant guy, so I try my best not to talk to him. James Milner (Liverpool midfielder at the time) is fine. We’re social distancing so we have to be careful, right?” Coote was quoted as saying in the video.
The video quickly went viral on social media platforms. Shortly after, the English refereeing regulator (PGMOL) launched an investigation into the incident.

Although PGMOL has not given an official answer about the authenticity of the video, the Sun Sport newspaper said that Coote himself admitted to officials that he was the person appearing in the video. This puts the “Black shirt king” at of being fired. Meanwhile, the Premier League organizers, Liverpool and coach Klopp himself have not made any comments.
