Rodri Hernandez, Manchester City’s Ballon d’Or winner, discusses the controversial chants directed at Vinicius Junior

Ballon d’Or winner Rodri Hernandez explains Vinicius Junior chants.

Real Madrid’s refusal to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony and theories about why it wasn’t Vinicius Junior sparked outrage in Spain. That was to most of the international audience, and Rodri’s celebrations didn’t help.

The Spain star said he was not disappointed with the reaction in his native country, but was asked about later-that-night photographs. Rodri and his celebrants sang ‘Ciao, Vinicius’ to Bella Ciao, but he didn’t give it any thought.

“People must realize it is healthy rivalry and a private party. If we install cameras in all our homes… Just another rivalry—I didn’t disrespect anyone. I respect Vinicius, he told Cadena Cope.

He says he would have voted for Spain teammate Dani Carvajal second and Vinicius third. Next time they, Vinicius will show if he cares. The Brazilian was devastated after losing the honor.
