Jude Bellingham wins Di Stefano Trophy after goal drought

Two days after shining in Real Madrid’s win over Osasuna in La Liga round 13, Jude Bellingham won the Di Stefano Trophy from Marca.

The Di Stefano Trophy is an award created by Marca to honor the best player in La Liga each season. This individual award, named after Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano, was first awarded in the 2007/08 season.

In the 2023/24 season, Barcelona goalkeeper Ter Stegen will receive the award. With 7 honors, Barcelona legend Lionel Messi is the player who has won the Di Stefano Trophy the most in history. In second place is Cristiano Ronaldo, with 4 times.

Jude Bellingham won the award thanks to his brilliant performance last season. In his first season with Real Madrid, the England international scored 23 goals and had 13 assists in all competitions, including 19 goals and 6 assists in La Liga.

After an explosive 2023/24 season, Jude Bellingam slowed down in the 2024/25 season. The proof is that two days before winning the Di Stefano Trophy, the former Dortmund midfielder scored for the first time for Real Madrid, a goal in the 4-0 win over Osasuna in round 13 of La Liga (November 9). Not only did he end his goal drought, the England international also had an assist in the match last weekend.

While Jude Bellingham won the Di Stefano Trophy, Isco received the Marca award for La Liga’s best player of the previous season, voted by fans. In the previous campaign, the former Real Madrid player shone brightly at Betis (scoring 8 goals and having 5 assists in La Liga, scoring 9 goals and having 7 assists in all competitions).

Shining in his first season playing for Betis, Isco unfortunately suffered an injury. Due to a broken fibula, the 32-year-old midfielder has been out since May 2024 and has not played a single match in the 2024/25 season.
