On Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers will host the Memphis Grizzlies in California, but one of their standout players missed Tuesday’s practice.
According to Jovan Buha from The Athletic, “The Lakers say D’Angelo Russell (illness) did not participate in practice today.” Russell has been averaging 12.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 40.7% from the field and 31.1% from beyond the arc in his ten appearances so far. The Lakers, holding a 6-4 record, currently sit in the seventh seed of the Western Conference.
In their recent 123-103 win over the Toronto Raptors, Russell contributed 15 points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal, shooting 6/13 from the field and 3/9 from deep across 27 minutes of play.
After Wednesday’s game, the Lakers will travel to Texas to face the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies, who have a 7-4 record and occupy the sixth seed, are on a three-game winning streak, including a dominant 134-89 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Following the Lakers matchup, Memphis will head to San Francisco for a Friday game against the Golden State Warriors.
Russell, who was the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Ohio State, has also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves over his ten-year career.
