It didn’t take Zinedine Zidane long to decide between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the GOAT argument.
It has come up again what Zinedine Zidane thought about the GOAT argument between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
He is one of the best midfielders of his time, Zidane. During his time with Bordeaux, Juventus, and Real Madrid, he won 13 big awards. He won the World Cup with France in 1998 as a player for his country.
In 2006, he resigned. Ten years later, he became manager of Real Madrid and won two La Liga titles and the Champions League in a row.
In 2018, “Zizou” quit as manager, but he came back the next year to win another La Liga title in 2020.
Lionel Messi was captain of Barcelona, the team that the club was most closely competing with at the time.
It wasn’t a surprise that Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and longtime foe of Messi, was Zidane’s main player at the time.
It was last year that Zidane and Messi made a YouTube video together where they talked about their lives.
Even though the 52-year-old looked up to Ronaldo, he said the nicest things about Messi.
He said, “No, it’s just one word: magic.”
“Today is a big day for me because I can tell Leo how much I admire him. We don’t get to spend every day together.”
“And all football fans and all these different players—I think he’s magic. Magic in the sense that he knew what to do before he even got the ball.”
Because I know a lot about football, watching you play made me think I knew what you were going to do, you know? It was like getting in touch.
“That’s it,” I say when I see him do what he does. There aren’t many football players like that. Some, but not as good as he is. Not many… “Okay, one.”
Zidane has been asked to compare Messi and Ronaldo before. People asked him in 2018 if the Portugal player was the best player of all time.
“Yes,” he answered. His numbers show what he has done and what he will do in the future.
“A player could come here and play for this team for 20 years and still not do what he’s done.”
Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 games for Real, while Messi scored 672 goals in 778 games for Barcelona. Both have since left Europe to play for teams in the MLS (Inter Miami) and the Saudi Pro League (Al Nassr).
