Rather than celebrating, Gakpo dedicated his holiday to charity work in Africa

Gakpo spent his holiday volunteering in Africa instead of partying.

Liverpool’s forward read the Bible in his own time.

Cody Gakpo is no ordinary footballer. While others visit tropical resorts on brief vacations, he does charitable work in Africa. While other teammates listen to Eminem or Taylor Swift and play Sony Play Station between workouts, he reads the Bible and listens to gospel. While other players are happy with one position, the 24-year-old forward has played striker, winger, and midfielder for Liverpool and been successful.

While others use their (short) holiday breaks to visit various tropical resorts, Gakpo is doing charity work in Africa. While other teammates are using their free time between training to listen to Eminem or Taylor Swift and play Sony Play Station, he prefers to read the Bible and listen to gospel music. While other players are comfortable with only one position, the 24-year forward has already covered all positions in Liverpool: a striker, a winger and even a midfielder, and was successful everywhere

When Togo’s football association approached Gakpo four years ago, the former PSV player was adamant about playing for the Dutch national team, even though his father is from Togo and his family is still there. He wishes to stay in touch with his father’s nation.

It was my first time there. It was great seeing plenty of family. My family performs charitable work there, so I helped. Gakpo told Daily Mail that helping and giving back is crucial.

The Dutch international is also pious, carrying his Bible and discussing religion with others.

Religion benefits my complete life, not just my career. It’s my lifestyle. I carry the Bible daily in the UK and abroad. I talk about it daily to learn more. My household is religious. I’ve been trying to grasp it for four years. Always looking for something. Learning how to live. I appreciate many passages, said Gakpo.

Liverpool’s attacker settled in swiftly after joining from PSV in January and played 26 games (seven goals, three assists). Like his teammates, Gakpo wants to overcome Liverpool’s dismal season and finish higher than fifth. Playing varied positions is also his thing.

Let’s forget last season. To win trophies again. Everyone agrees on the plan. Everyone wants to fix it. The game or opponent determines my optimal position, making it hard to choose. I enjoy being quick to act. Carry from midfield to is my style. I really want lots of goals and assists, said Gakpo.
