Manchester United is reportedly planning a bid for Sporting Lisbon’s £84m-rated starlet Geovany Quenda, as new manager Ruben Amorim aims to reunite with the Portuguese winger

Manchester United is reportedly preparing a bid for Sporting Lisbon’s young talent, Geovany Quenda.

After four and a half successful years at Sporting, Ruben Amorim was appointed as United’s new manager following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal. The 39-year-old’s challenge is to turn around United’s poor start to the season, which had been their worst-ever in Premier League history under the previous manager.

Amorim reportedly believes 17-year-old Quenda could be key to achieving this, as noted by A Bola. The report also suggests that United had already approached Sporting about Quenda before Amorim’s appointment, and they’re aiming to finalize a deal by the summer transfer window.

Quenda recently extended his contract until 2027, raising his release clause from £38m to £84m, a clause now equal to that of his teammate Victor Gyokeres, who has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

Quenda only joined Sporting’s first team this season and quickly set a record as the youngest scorer in the club’s history. However, following his recent move to United, Amorim denied any plans to sign former players in the January transfer window, saying, “I won’t be signing [Sporting players] in January, that’s what I said.”
