🚨 Luka Modrić’s Croatia qualified for the Nations League quarterfinals!
Without Cristiano Ronaldo, there would be no way to score! Joao Felix shines, but stern Croatia holds Portugal, which has lost Bruno Fernandes and the Al-Nassr hero.
In the Nations League match against Croatia, Portugal showed how strong they are across the board, but they missed a clinical edge without their renowned stars.
Joao Felix was very good, but Josko Gvardiol never gave up, and Portugal and Croatia played to an exciting 1-1 draw on Monday night.
They made seven changes from the team that Poland 5-1 over the weekend, but it looked like they would have enough early on to the Croats.
In the 33rd minute, Felix gave the guests a well-deserved lead when he expertly controlled Vitinha’s long pass and fired the ball through Dominik Livakovic’s legs.
Andrej Kramaric sent a warning shot to Portugal when his shot hit the post and bounced off it. Rafael Leao and Felix then had more chances to score for the away team.
The second half saw Croatia get better. Around the hour mark, they thought they had tied the game with Gvardiol’s header, but it was called off because he was offside.
But the defender for Manchester City scored in the 65th minute when he tucked in Kristijan Jakic’s sweet cross.
One end had Livakovic save Mendes’ close-range shot, and the other had Jose Sa make an amazing save to keep Ante Budimir out. Budimir was later denied by the post as well.
In an exciting game, neither team could pull ahead, and both made it to the last eight of the Nations League.
