Real Madrid auction ‘memorabilia’ used by Ronaldo in tough times
Real Madrid are auctioning off a Santiago Bernabeu locker used by Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and other legends, with bids starting at £10,000.
Los Blancos are giving fans and collectors the chance to own a piece of football history as 24 iconic lockers from the Bernabeu go under the hammer.
The lockers were used by Real Madrid first-team players between 2002 and 2022, including legends such as Ronaldo, Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Sergio Ramos, Luís Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo – a period that marked the club’s greatest success.
The precious artefacts went on public display at Sotheby’s London gallery on 20 November, attracting the attention of fans and memorabilia collectors. Alongside the cabinets, the auction will feature a number of exclusive items, including a three-metre mosaic of the Real Madrid club crest, with a starting price of £12,000. The metal doors that once stood at the Bernabeu are also up for bid.
The online auction will run until 26 November, allowing buyers from all over the world to participate. Sotheby’s has announced that a portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Real Madrid Foundation, the club’s charitable arm. The money raised will also help offset the cost of the massive £500 million ($649 million) renovation project at the Bernabeu.
While the auction continues to attract interest, Real Madrid are focusing on the games on the pitch. Los Blancos return to La Liga action this Sunday after the international break against Leganes, before Carlo Ancelotti’s men take on Liverpool at Anfield in a highly-anticipated Champions League
