Gakpo shares a hurtful childhood nickname and makes reference to a “long” body part.

It will soon be a year since Cody Gakpo started playing at Anfield. He’s made a great impact on our team, but no one has given him a nickname yet. This wasn’t the case when he was growing up.

The Dutch player told LFCTV Go’s “A Day with Gakpo” what they called him at PSV: “When I was at PSV, around 17/18, they always called me “long neck” because they thought I had a long neck.”

There was no sign that our No.18 was hoping it would stick now that he’s on Merseyside, and it does look like an choice from his youth comrades.

Liverpool fans will probably call the 24-year-old player a different name if he stays with the club for a long time. Let’s hope our name is a little better.
