Ja Morant Injury Update: Memphis Grizzlies Star Nearing Return

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is nearing a return to the lineup.

Ahead of Monday’s home game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Morant was listed as questionable on the Grizzlies’ injury report. He has been recovering from a hip subluxation and multiple pelvic muscle strains, which have kept him sidelined for the last eight games.

Morant was previously upgraded to doubtful for Saturday’s victory against the Bulls in Chicago, marking progress in his recovery. So far this season, Memphis (10-7) has gone 5-3 in games where Morant has played. The point guard is averaging 20.6 points and 9.1 assists per game.

Additionally, Marcus Smart, who missed the past four games due to illness, will be available for Monday’s matchup.

Although Smart had recovered by Saturday, coach Taylor Jenkins opted to allow him more time to regain his conditioning.

The Grizzlies have a favorable schedule this week, playing four home games against sub-.500 teams.

This presents a strong opportunity to build momentum and solidify their position in the competitive Western Conference. Currently tied with the Los Angeles Clippers for the sixth-best record in the West, Memphis holds the seventh seed due to tiebreakers. With Morant and Smart potentially back, the team is well-positioned to climb in the standings early in the season.
