Matheus Cunha’s influence on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fight for Premier League survival likely exceeded expectations when the club secured him from Atletico Madrid.
Despite Wolves’ struggles, the 27-year-old forward is having a stellar season, silencing critics with consistent performances.
Cunha found the net once again during Wolves’ emphatic 4-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday, raising his tally to ten goals in just twelve league matches this season. It was his second consecutive game scoring at Craven Cottage. Cunha played a pivotal role in the match, contributing two of Wolves’ four goals and assisting Joao Gomes on another.
While Cunha’s potential departure during the January transfer window would be a significant blow to Wolves, retaining him might prove challenging.
Since his time at Atletico Madrid, the Brazilian forward has been linked to several big clubs, including Manchester United, who reportedly considered him as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Reflecting on United’s previous interest, Cunha described it as an “honor” to be associated with such a prestigious club. “Being linked to Manchester United is truly an honor,” he stated.
“It’s one of the most iconic clubs in the world. But I’m happy at Wolves. The future is always uncertain; perhaps another strong season lies ahead. I always aim to show my appreciation and give back the love I’ve received.”
