PAIN: Mbappe misses penalty and falls flat, causing a stir

Kylian Mbappe’s fall on the pitch was seen as the perfect “summary” of another forgettable day for Real Madrid, as they lost 2-0 to Liverpool, with Mbappe missing a penalty.

Arriving at Anfield, with Vinicius injured, Mbappe was given his preferred left-wing position, offering the 25-year-old a chance to prove his worth in a crucial clash against Liverpool. However, Mbappe had another disastrous performance, leaving Real Madrid fans even more frustrated.

The summer signing from Paris Saint-Germain barely made an impact against Liverpool.

To make matters worse, Mbappe missed a penalty in the 61st minute, a crucial moment when Real Madrid was already trailing by one goal to Liverpool, which could have been a turning point.

Criticism soon poured in for the French star, even before the final whistle blew on the 2-0 loss to Liverpool, with goals from Mac Allister and Gakpo. There were even remarks from some fans claiming: “Without Mbappe, we are champions, but with him, the team is dreadful…”

This was Real Madrid’s third loss in five group-stage games in the Champions League, leaving them at the bottom of their group in the playoff spot – ranked 24th, with three more matches to go.

After the match, coach Carlo Ancelotti faced numerous questions about Mbappe’s performance, but he defended his player, stating, “We shouldn’t blame Mbappe for missing the penalty. Anyone can miss, and it happens frequently.”

“We need to be patient with Mbappe. He’s an excellent player. We will always support and love him,” Ancelotti added.
