Scoring a goal but missing an incredible chance, Mbappe still left many fans disappointed

After losing to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid need a win against Getafe to catch up with leaders Barcelona in La Liga. Barcelona’s surprise loss to Las Palmas yesterday is an opportunity for coach Ancelotti’s team to break away.

Real Madrid fielded an attacking lineup with strikers Rodrygo, Mbappe and Diaz, with Bellingham in charge of leading the play. Right after the opening whistle, Real Madrid pushed up their formation in search of a goal.

The highlight of the match came in the 26th minute. Rudiger was pulled down by Nyom in the penalty area and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Bellingham calmly fooled Getafe goalkeeper Soria to open the score 1-0 for Real Madrid.

In the 38th minute, Bellingham had a smart pass that allowed Mbappe to run down and make a tricky shot that beat goalkeeper Soria, the ball hit the inside of the post before going into the net. Real Madrid led 2-0 in the first half.

Early in the second half, Real Madrid almost got another penalty when the referee initially determined that Berrocal used his hand to block Mbappe’s shot in the penalty area. But after reviewing VAR technology, the referee changed his decision.

Real Madrid could have won by a bigger margin in the 74th minute when Mbappe used his speed to get past the last defender, then dribbled past goalkeeper Soria but he kicked the ball wide in front of an empty goal. Three minutes later, the French striker continued to run down the face, but his shot bounced off goalkeeper Soria’s foot and went wide.
