Salah demands highest salary in Premier League
The Egyptian striker wants huge benefits if he signs with Liverpool again.
With 16 goals and 12 assists since the start of the 2024/25 season, Mohamed Salah is showing impressive form at Liverpool. However, this striker and Liverpool have not yet reached an agreement on signing a new contract. By January 2025, Salah can negotiate with other clubs and leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The Times said that Liverpool are considering two factors in a new contract with Salah, which are age and salary. The striker’s representative expects Liverpool to accept a salary of 500,000 pounds/week for Salah, making him the highest-paid player in the Premier League. Currently, Salah receives 350,000 pounds/week. The highest-paid player in the Premier League is Kevin de Bruyne of Man City (400,000 pounds/week).
Liverpool are spending around £18.2 million on Salah’s annual salary. If they agree to renew the contract, “The Kop” will have to pay a salary of up to £26 million/year and £78 million for 3 seasons.
Times also said that Liverpool are worried that Salah will find it difficult to maintain his current scoring form for the next 3 years. Paying up to £78 million in salary (excluding performance bonuses) is a big obstacle.
In addition, Salah’s age is also a problem for Liverpool. Previously, Sports Director Michael Edwards had a rule of not renewing contracts with players over 30 years old. These players can leave on a free transfer if they are no longer valuable to the club. For Salah, demanding a 3-year contract when he is 32 years old is a big obstacle.
Salah’s talent once attracted the attention of PSG. Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi highly values the striker’s class and wants to bring him to play next summer. However, Salah still wants to continue to be associated with Liverpool.
In addition to Salah, Liverpool are also trying to sign new contracts with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Both contracts expire at the end of this season. Alexander-Arnold is receiving attention from Real Madrid.
