Denver Nuggets point guard Russell Westbrook entered Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans with a strong case for Sixth Man of the Year. Heading into the contest, Westbrook was averaging 11.6 points, 6.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in just 25.5 minutes per game.
Often finishing games for Denver and taking on the toughest defensive assignments, Westbrook has played a key role for his new team.
On Sunday night, he delivered another impressive performance, finishing with 21 points, five assists, five rebounds, three steals, and one block. In doing so, Westbrook also made NBA history.
His stat line of 21 points, five assists, five rebounds, three steals, and one block made him the oldest player in NBA history to record such a performance off the bench, surpassing Derrick Rose, who did it at 32 years old in 2021. At age 36, Westbrook now stands alone at the top of this notable list.
A former league MVP, Westbrook holds several NBA records, including a few as a reserve player. Adding another achievement on Sunday, he was exceptional on both ends of the floor for Denver.
