Emotional moment in Real Madrid’s win
Before the match at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid and Sevilla players lined up in two rows to pay tribute to Jesus Navas. This was the last match of the Spanish veteran’s career. Navas decided to retire in the middle of the season after two decades of and winning many major titles, including the World Cup, 2 Euros, Nations League, 4 Europa League titles, Premier League and Copa del Rey.
Modric represented Real Madrid to present Navas with a shirt signed by the entire team. The defender born in 1985 was the only player to participate in Spain’s 2010 World Cup and Euro 2024 championships.
Not only the players from both teams, tens of thousands of spectators at the Bernabeu also gave Navas endless applause.
After the final whistle, Navas burst into tears in front of the affection of Real Madrid fans. “I have never seen any team’s fans show their appreciation to their opponents as warmly as Real,” Navas said.
Navas is fully deserving of the title “legend”. No Sevilla player has won more titles than Navas (8), nor has any player played more for Sevilla than the 39-year-old veteran (705 games). Sevilla’s training ground has also been renamed Jesus Navas to remind future generations of his example of perseverance.
Bellingham expressed his respect for his senior. Navas was once offered to play until the end of the 2024/25 season by the board. However, the former Man City player decided to retire in the middle of the season.
