Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has spoken of the somber mood in the dressing room following the disastrous defeat to Bournemouth.
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has criticised his teammates following their disastrous 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford on December 22.
Dean Huijsen opened the scoring for the visitors, before Justin Kluivert doubled the lead from the penalty spot. Antoine Semenyo added to Manchester United’s woes by scoring a third, handing Ruben Amorim his worst defeat since taking charge in November.
The Portuguese coach has only won 7 points from his first 6 games as coach, while his team are conceding goals at a worrying rate.
Lisandro Martinez, though, appeared to blame his team-mates up front after Manchester United failed to score in front of a frustrated crowd, with the Argentine admitting there were plenty of angry faces in the dressing room.
Lisandro Martinez shared: “We are very angry with this situation. We have to improve our set pieces, especially in defense. I have a lot of faith in the team and the coaching staff.”
Early in the second half, Onana made a crucial save to parry a shot and prevent Manchester United from falling two goals behind, highlighting the ongoing issues in their defensive setup.
Just before halftime, Mainoo displayed impressive skill, weaving past four Bournemouth defenders with remarkable footwork, but his shot drifted wide of the far post. With one minute of stoppage time remaining, United still had a chance to find an equalizer before the break.
In the 54th minute, Hojlund came on to replace Joshua Zirkzee, while Alejandro Garnacho was substituted in for Manuel Ugarte.
However, early in the second half, Noussair Mazraoui conceded a clear penalty after bringing down Justin Kluivert in the box.
