When Sir Alex Ferguson visited Manchester for lunch, he was in for a delightful surprise.
As Ferguson arrived outside The Ivy, he was greeted by Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, and Gary Neville—four key players from Manchester United’s iconic Class of ’92, all of whom were recruited by Fergie himself.
The former Red Devils stars had been waiting outside the restaurant for 10 minutes before the legendary manager arrived, surprising him with their presence.
The surprise took place on November 27, coinciding with the opening of a new branch of The Ivy restaurant in Manchester, which can accommodate up to 535 guests. The venue includes a private dining area on the first floor and also marks the debut of Ivy Asia, the company’s first such location.
Ferguson, who had expected just a simple lunch, was taken aback when he found his former players waiting for him.
Earlier in the year, the Manchester United icon had suffered a brain hemorrhage, and these surprise guests were among those who had sent their well wishes for his recovery.
