The stadium of the club based in the Spanish capital is about to be renamed

Real Madrid make unprecedented change in nearly 70 years

According to Marca, Real Madrid are planning to rename the legendary Santiago Bernabeu stadium for the first time in nearly 7 decades.

The pro-Madrid newspaper emphasized that Los Blancos are considering changing the stadium’s name from Santiago Bernabeu to The Bernabeu. Marca said the change was made for commercial and marketing reasons.

The name Santiago Bernabeu was officially used by Real Madrid on January 4, 1955, in honor of the famous player, coach and president of the club of the same name. Since then, the name has become a symbol and one of the most famous sports stadiums in the world.

During his nearly 35 years as president, Santiago Bernabeu helped Real Madrid win 6 European Cups, 16 La Liga titles, 6 Spanish King’s Cups and many other titles. He is also credited with helping Man United rebuild the team after the Munich air in 1958.
